I just had this wild and crazy idea of a newgrounds themed mod, but since I don't know any 3d whatsoever and don't own a PC (I'm not sure about the mod tools being on a mac), I can't really do much about it.

It seemed to me that this would be one of the simpler ideas, keeping all the level geometry simple and mildly textured, and you'd only need 1 or 2 simple tankman character models and vehicle models could be relatively simple as well.

Anyways, just throwing that out there. Even with the simplicity of the stuff I'm sure it's still a ton of work but hey I felt like blogging like a queer so just indulge me.

I don't really know much about modding. I assume that they'll let you alter skins and weapons as much as you like. But the wire frame skeleton might not be 'moddable', so if you go with the cartoony style, you might wind up with regular bodies and huge heads.

If it's done in flash, is it possible to make the gun move to the side of the screen and when you move the mouse really close to the edge of the screen it goes to a different place, so it seems like you're turning, that would make it more 3D then a regular shooter.

Also I wonder if you make it seem like your moving forward. It might be able to be done if you say hit the up arrow and it seems like your moving forward but actually it could be just zooming in a way with more appearing.

I might just fool around to see if this is possible. Anyways goodluck with it.

It's amazing how many of the people in these comments just read the title and skipped to the picture...then felt the need to comment...a Tankmen mod would be good I'm not sure that Epic Games would put it in the retail PS3 version though since they love to not promote other sites or products. If there's the chance that Epic lets this pass I would like a Salad Fingers mod. He could just be lurking in the dark corners and show up like that creepy girl from F.E.A.R. I would defiantely try to avoid any mods involving a Crew, Union, or other group of NG since a bunch of hate mail will follow (which I'm sure isn't a big deal). I would make the mod for you, but I'm terrible with modding. I used to mod for The Sims 2 (like creating in game items and programming them), but the coding is much different from that of UR3.

kibas-cool: There are tons of reasons for using unreal engine 3. First of all it comes free with the game. Unreal 2004 came with unreal engine 2 and you can already find countless tutorials and resources which are compatible with the new engine. Epic games is one of the few game companies that actually encourage people to mod their games. So yeah there are other game editors out there, but unreal is a really good choice.

Seems like quite some work, but definitely worthwhile.
Luckily textures and sounds can be loaded pretty easy when using the editor.
A harder part will be the modelling of a 3d tankman and/or guns. But if you're lazy you could just take your standard bloke and give him a tankman tex I guess.

The hardest part will be actually scripting the mod for the game and since the maker is taunting you to, it shouldn't be that hard to find a way how.

Definitely try making it, it would rock!
And as stated before, a general NG one would rock even harder.
So please, go mod that game. 8D

You guys all should do a full-fledged multiplayer only shooter set in the Tankmen world, and let everyone customize their goggles and head-shapes and what team they're on (the pointy-helmets, the sports gear rebels, the Tankmen, etc.), and release it on Xbox Live. It'd be incredible, Tankmen lends itself so well to this and can easily be a Halo-killer.
